If you like the 1975 you may enjoy…

If you’re like me and love the vibes of the 1975 but can’t find any similar artists that have the same alternative, electronic, nostalgic feel as songs such as ‘The Sound’ and ‘She’s American’ well this is the post for you.

During my podcast I went on a mission to find similar artists as previously it was just the Japanese house and Beabadoobee’s ‘our extended play’ that sounded close enough. During my findings, I found quite a few gems for you guys…

Firstly, Valley's 2020 ep ‘Sucks to see you doing better’ is rather cool. Valley, like the 1975, is an alternative pop band and their songs such as “Nevermind” definitely have that funky beat that you’d love. However, throughout the ep, there are also cinematic chill songs too like ‘Hiccup’ which is a windows down movie moment kinda song.

Nightly’s song ‘Anything Else’ is also a “song to drive to” which they say in their Spotify bio. These types of songs are most comparable in vibe to the 1975’s debut ep I’d say.

If you’re looking for something similar to the songs ‘The 1975’ and ‘Part of the Band’ then ‘91’ by the Bleachers is perfect. This piece has incredible orchestral music in the background and interesting lyrics which makes for an impressive song. The Bleachers 2021 album ‘Take the Sadness Out of Me’, where ‘91’ is from is also well put together and even features Bruce Springsteen which is a great collab for this style of music.

As Well as that, ‘Shuffle’ by Bombay Bicycle Club is also a recommendation with the choppy piano throughout that really makes the song feel story-like and almost theatrical in that sense.

Switching it up a notch, for the upbeat and high energy more electronic/ pop songs, ‘Take it or leave it’ by Great Good Fine OK is a great choice. It's a very catchy pop song with hints of funky electronic that has helped “pave the way for several headline tours” which is great to hear!

Now, Cherry Pools, a fresh, indie pop band, has two songs that stand out to me the most, ‘Are you in love’ and ‘Hollywood’. Definitely summer party vibes and the vocals are *mwah*.

Dayglow is also an artist to listen to as you may enjoy their songs such as ‘Radio’ and ‘Second Nature’ from their latest album ‘People in Motion’. Whilst most of Dayglow's songs in the ep are indie pop ‘Second in Nature’ has definitely more of an electronic, funky vibe.

If you’re looking for more electronic and funky similar to The 1975 songs like ‘Too Time’ then my recommendation starts with ‘Get Out’ by CRUISR which has the kinda distorted high-pitched vocals similar to ‘Tonight I Wish I Was Your Boy’ which is interesting and extremely cool. This is probably my favourite find as it’s high energy and catchy which is backed by their Spotify bio being ‘dancey, melodic, indie pop with a frenetic ’80s new wave vibe’ which perfectly sums up why I like them. I think describing their music as an ’80s new wave vibe helps me understand the ‘nostalgic vibe’ I'm thinking of when I call the 1975 nostalgic and electronic. CRUISR's other songs definitely deserve a listen too.

Now in terms of artists as a whole, looking at all of their songs there are two that I'm gonna suggest. Milk and Yin.

Milk is a Dublin four-piece alt-pop band with around 180 thousand monthly listeners. My favourite songs are ‘Human Contact’ and ‘I might bore you’ as they are semi-catchy songs with interesting and unique instrumentals and lyrics. This band has more of a chill funky vibe so if that’s what you enjoy then you should definitely consider streaming.

Yin, on the other hand, blew my mind. With only 350 monthly listeners and songs such as ‘Cool Online’ and ‘Trauma,’ I don’t know why this trio isn't blowing up. Their 2022 album ‘Someone Who Isn’t Me’ is very The 1975 ESC in terms of having a unique, experimental feel. I think my favourite song has to be ‘Tsunami’ as I enjoy the shouting in it which reminds me of ‘people’ and it is slightly more rock.

Overall I think I've finally found a good range of new artists to listen to and add to my playlist and hopefully, this has helped you find a new artist to love too.
